  • Chuvalo Punched As Hards As...?

How hard do you judge Chuvalo's punch to have been? That is, what more familiar fighter would you compare his power to?

Furthermore, was Chuvalo's power to the body different from his power to the head? Some fighters punch pretty hard downstairs but do not seem to punch that hard upstairs. Is Chuvalo one of those? I am thinking about matching him with Marciano.

    Thanks, lads.

He was a hard arm puncher but very slow.

      George was rather sturdy altogether.

Did he punch as hard as Quarry? I didn't say as good a puncher. Did he punch as hard?

I think he punched harder that Quarry, but didn't put them together as well. I'd put him in the catagoryof guys like Dokes. Mind you that's just a first hand opinion and not a studied one. Chuvalo last through toughness and grit in a time where you actually had to fight to retain a ranking. The guy was a true warrior inside and outside of the ring.

George Chuvalo was a tough strong Canadian boxer who never had the benefit of a good trainer or management. When he turned pro his mother asked the local butcher to manage him because he was the only person she knew who had any business experience even though he only had business experience as a butcher. Chuvalo never got knocked down in 93 pro fights. His life outside the ring had so much drama. His son committed suicide and then his wife did the same in his son's bed. I tried to find a documentary about his life I once saw but was unable to find it. If I can find it I'll post it up here another time.

Some good information there, lad. The butcher.

All categories seem to be debatable, except boxing's greatest chin.

Would it be fair to say the punches of Chuvalo had about the same force as heavyweight Holyfield's?

You tube the Chuvalo- Quarry fight, a good action fight that Jerry was ahead , Chuvalo knocked Quarry down , Quarry rose to his feet than took a knee lost track of time stood up and was like in good & the referee Counted 10.
One of the more insane finishes in a sport that is full of insanity!!!! And that’s that

Read a recent interview with Chuvalo, in which he said something like "having been a boxer, you know you can wake up one morning and suffer of dementia. So every morning when I wake up and is feeling well, it's a blessing."

A thought we all should assimilate.
