The Frenchman he was referring to was the French Canadian Gaetan Hart.

He beat Arguello the 1st time by Cheating with several drugs in the bottle his corneman Lewis had in the bottle, it allowed him to take punches he normally never did take, he he was high as a Kite in that fight, the 2nd fight, he had stolen Arguellos Heart and Soul by then in the 1st fight, Alexis should never have fought the 2nd one, but Pryor was down 8 x in his career, look at the right hand Arguellos hits him with that bends his head straight back, and he doesnt even flinch, that's not Pryor, he would have normally at the very least gone down, he blew it off like a 12 yr old girl hit him, no way, he was on several stimulants. learn boxing before you post, LOL

Like this movie reviewer (link), I remember June 20, 1980, very well.
Actually, after a few days, the Duran vs. Leonard fight was eclipsed by
the health reports of Cleveland Denny. It was his name that became
headlines for the following weeks, and again, it triggered a discussion
for or against banning pro boxing.
A half year earlier in N.Y. City, Wilford Scypion had beaten Willie Classen
to death in a bout that was refereed by Boxing Illustrated’s (an important
voice at the time) editor-in-chief Lew Eskin.

The film about Roberto Duran (and starring Robert De Niro, among others) tells some of the story about the famous "Brawl in Montreal" back there in 1980 . . . but not all of it.

Yeah God forbid we see physical violence, but watching people humiliate themselves on some trashy game show or reality TV show, possibly damaging them mentally we're okay with in this sick society. I say it's all okay or none of it is and stop b u ll sh****ng ourselves and each other. Some show like Maury Povich or Big Brother is like the old days of Roman gladiators just as much as boxing is. We love it and there will always be an audience for it. Those that don't like it need to just change the channel, especially these days where there are so many choices.

                      Here you guys go!
Pryor never won a fight by being a better fighter.
                      He won by taking drugs.
                      And using loaded gloves (probably)
