--- Yep, think Tommy was Manny's first big time fighter, a perfect match.

Much to the animosity of Mike McCallum who has held a cottage industry level grudge against Manny and Tommy ever since.

I honestly don't know if it would haven been much different if Spinks weren't afraid. Tyson was bigger and stronger than him
They both were "bad" style matchup for each other. Tyson's style was made to handle slick, moving boxers with longer reaches. While Spinks style was meant to handle aggressive, come forward sluggers. Thing was, Tyson was the most powerful, fastest and not to mention, skilled come forward sluggers type fighter he ever met. Spinks needed more in his favor in order to beat Tyson. As far as fear is concerned, I don't know how much it affected Spinks performance. Under the right conditions, fear can boost performance

Ali later admitted to fearing Sonny Liston. And indeed, a psychiatrist gave his professional opinion that Ali's pre fight antics were to cover up his fear. But, that night, Ali fought the fight of his life and it could have been that healthy fear of Liston that brought out the best in Ali.

I'm guessing the Detroit Lions used to play there.
Having been born and raised in the Detroit area I can say you're right, the Lions did play there. They recently tore the silver dome down. Also, Pinklon Thomas was from Pontiac, Michigan and in fact has family still around there. A few years ago, his father passed away at the age of 100 years old, having been born the same year as Joe Louis. I know that they had his funeral service up in Pontiac.

Ah good old Pinky. Was a good contender for a while. His fights with Holmes and Tyson were memorable.

Very true, but he did fight Larry Beilfuss.

Woops, sorry, I meant Evander Holyfield. Got confused with all the different boxing careers I've been watching.

See, admitting when you're wrong isn't that difficult and it's not a sign of weakness. You oughta try it sometime.

                    Agree.

I’ve written some really bad posts, here and on other forums, because I’ve been drunk as a skunk.

But, I’ve come to the conclusion it doesn’t matter on internet. Any post you regret will soon be drowned and forgotten because of the net’s constant cacaphony. Unfortunately, if you write some wise stuff, it will drown and be forgotten as well.

--- well , if they continue to develop AI, they'll have a translator for any nonsense or wisdom soon enough.

                      Siri will be everyone's gal!
