    Switch Patterson with M Spinks

Say in an alternate universe, the HW version of Spinks could replace Floyd Patterson. Starting at his fight with Archie Moore. How would Spinks do?

To keep it kind of simple, let's just evaluate Spinks vs Patterson best opponents so. The version he fought so

    Moore
    Tommy Jackson
    Johannson
    Henry Cooper
    Eddie Machen
    Muhummad Ali
    George Chuvalo
    Sonny Liston
    Oscar Bonavena
    Jerry Quarry

I don't see Spinks even beating half of those guys. IMO.

Switch Patterson with Michael Spinks? I'd rather not.

--- Ridiculous. Spinks was a vastly better boxer and fighter than Patterson who was a bit of an overachiever being swaddled like a baby by D'amato.

The only guy that gives him any trouble would be Ali himself who could easily be outboxed and put down at that stage by the right guy, and the Spinks Jinx was legendary in subtle boxing application.

You think Spinks would beat Liston?

--- The Patterson Liston was the peak Liston.

Yeah, that'd be a tough beast to crack, but the scenario is the degraded Liston that Ali fought, a much easier task. He was training on whiskey for the first fight expecting a rollover on young and dumb Clay.

Ridiculous,.......... Liston was a 9 year pro at the time Ali fought him and was "training on whiskey"? Stop the nonsense. Liston sparred with a younger Ali and had a hard time landing his jab on him long before they fought. They knew very well that he had to be in shape and he was.
Liston went on to fight 5 more years improving his record to 15-1 in those 5 years.
Not many wanted to fight Sonny before or after the Ali bouts. This guy was a legit puncher with both hands and punched in combination like Louis used to do!

He was an uneducated man who was also a controlled pro boxer.
Sonny was a great boxer and a crowd favorite he didn't need any help in the ring.
