Once upon a time in America during the 1920, 30s and 40s, the three most favorite sports were baseball, boxing and horse racing.

Over time boxing was supplanted by two other violent contact sports, namely college/professional football and, to a lesser degree, ice hockey.

Therefore, to help revive the interest in boxing, I think the following three (3) changes would help:

    (1) Make the ring no larger than 16' by 16' &

    (2) Make the weight of the boxing gloves no more than 8 ounces and

    (3) Award the winner of a bout by KO at least one-third (1/3) of the loser's purse.

In a sport where the most unfortunate die or are severely injured I think it'll be hard to go what I feel would be backwards in time to a more primitive sport.

I think boxing became damaged when it evolved into more of a business.

Treating other sports like businesses did not degrade them. Why boxing?

--- Boxing is the instrument of the ******** industry where they not only set their own odds, but usually get to control the outcome.

Baseball esp followed to lesser extents by the other major sports disavowed themselves from sports, hence a degree of transparency in how those sports are run. They pay lip service to their public image and the players have to fall in line to a degree.

Ah yea, 'baseball is clean' I must have missed the memo.

Baseball is and always has been as dirty as the fight game, just in its own unique way.

Trivia: Why is baseball the only sport where managers and coaches must wear (player) uniforms?

Hint: The answer is relevant to your post.

The heavyweight division will be scaled back by a lawsuit. Eventually some 6ft9, 275lb guy will kill his 6ft2, 225lb opponent and his family will sue and win.

--- as dirty as baseball has been historically, the disavowed the ******** industry and their scoring is comprehensible and easily verified compared to boxing.

YOU said baseball is clean, not moi. Politics is the ultimate blood sport and business not that far behind, and they controll the western nations. Expecting the people and their athletes to be choirboys is impossible under today conditions, but there could be more accountability.
