Once upon a time in America during the 1920, 30s and 40s, the three most favorite sports were baseball, boxing and horse racing.
Over time boxing was supplanted by two other violent contact sports, namely college/professional football and, to a lesser degree, ice hockey.
Therefore, to help revive the interest in boxing, I think the following three (3) changes would help:
(1) Make the ring no larger than 16' by 16' &
(2) Make the weight of the boxing gloves no more than 8 ounces and
(3) Award the winner of a bout by KO at least one-third (1/3) of the loser's purse.
