Only 2 rounds, McNulty coming down hard on Walcott.

Walcott was the far more skilled fighter. Not close. Deciding who will win a hwt fight based on weight is a boxing amateur approach.

Sometimes weight DOES make the difference (loma-salido for example), but not at heavyweight IMO.

Holyfield was 205 for their first fight and made it 12 rounds. Weight doesn't play a factor here. Herbie Hide made it 6 and was a former cruiser himself. I don't think either we're as technically gifted as Walcott.. that said, I do think Bowe would eventually stop him. The two round assumption though is a bit farfetched given the facts.

              Agree with this.

The only thing Walcott didn't have was Holy's chin. If he did, I'd pick him to beat Bowe. He would likely out box Bowe until late in the fight, but the best Bowe stops him.

It would depend on the particular heavies. Example, @ HW, size was less of an issue between M. Spinks and Holmes and lesser of an issue between M. Spinks and Cooney than it was between Spinks and Tyson in which it became apparent.

Walcott was one of the hardest bodies to ever compete as a heavyweight. Skin stretched over black marble. Knocking Marciano down and Charles out cold proves beyond any doubt he could hit like a truck. I wonder if those bird legs would still be as nimble with 5 or 10 pounds more muscle on them. The legs were where Walcott might have used a little additional weight. That would possibly have affected his dance steps, though. I believe he was also the footwork and feinting king of heavyweight history. Walcott had a lot of aspects to his game that were so naturally integrated into his style that they could be overlooked. It could be overlooked that he was unique, that no one else fought like Joe Walcott. There may not even be a worthy predecessor for how Joe performs in the ring.

I have never seen another fighter over whom I felt prompted to say, his style reminds me of Walcott's. Unique.
