Don Turner on Marciano

Turner may have worked with Marciano for the Ali "bout." That would probably have put him in his early twenties.
"What did Holyfield do better than the Klits," asked the interviewer?
"He fought," said Turner.Comment

""Cause he can't punch." Lol!".............................
Been telling you guys this since I joined this club. Mayweather would be ok at 130, he could be a speedy boxer in most era's and at 130 his speed added to his punching ability.
However at 147 he gets brutalized against the great Welters. He can't punch at 147, he is VOID of power and when you fight greats you need to get some respect with your punch.
Met Turner years ago when Saad would come to me for prep work.
Trainers today need to tune in to Turner and learn some of the techniques that they know NOTHING about. It doesn't make them BAD trainers it does make them LESS informed.

"Mayweather would be ok at 130, he could be a speedy boxer in most era's and at 130 his speed added to his punching ability".
Don't you read posts you comment on?
At 130 he would have a better chance however he would not be a great fighter against great 130 pound men. Can you see him in with Armstrong or Ike Williams, I can't, they came to fight. That's Turners point is that the current guys come to win by decision but rarely look to dominate. The men in the past who were high caliber competitors look to beat the sh*!
out of you and have the goods to do it.
Mayweather fought well in his prime but at 147 he didn't fight he looked to counter move and counter punch. He would have been booed out of the venues if he fought like that back then.

Barney Ross would go toe to toe with Armstrong who did Mayweather go toe to toe with some guy from the lower weight classes moving up for some Mayweather money?
Floyd Mayweather could not carry Ross bags to the gym.
Did you see Mayweather run from a South American club fighter who chased him all over the ring for 12 rounds? His old man was begging him to FIGHT back!
Seriously watch Ross, Armstrong, Robinson etc fight.... then watch Mayweather as a welter! He's a sissy!

It kills me you're making me defend Floyd.Comment

If I'm not mistaken Floyd fought Corrales at 130?
If you want to compare Corralles to Henry Armstrong go ahead but I'll sign off at that junction.
Billy Con got knocked out in the end. A better example could be Pep but Pep threw more punches than lil' Floyd did......at welter!

To Turner Mayweather would not be a contender in a decent era and the kid asks why...Turner looks at him like the kid just said "I don't know what the appeal of 22 year old Racquel Welch is, what do people see in her?"... and says matter of factly "Cause he can't punch." Lol!
Floyd's skills are legitimately old school, he is a living link to the training methods of a bygone era.
A special fighter without a doubt. No matter what Don Turner says.Comment
