Don't know if you are a Mental Floss reader, but thought you and October Red might enjoy this.

      Thanks Dempsey-Louis

I read this elsewhere. He is definitely canonized. He went in to fight for programming, to save a budget against a very determined committee, to cut the funding and not only got the funding but an incredible increase! People could not believe that Rogers could accomplish this... and it was not even close, after the first minutes it was like a transformation came over the Senator heading the committee.

And I agree with Battling Nelson. It seems strange that you would say what bicycle tape was after you came in and said rather rudely that I should "put up or shut up" about finding white bicycle tape on bikes from the early 1900's.
I know we have beaten this topic to death but I thought you might enjoy this excerpt regarding gloves and tape from Louis-Schmeling I.

Interesting. But You mean Louis-Max Baer, I'm sure.

I wonder why the compromise was more gauze and tape. Seems rather odd to me.

Good find! You always find interesting things to share!!! I appreciate it!

Haha. Now that is hysterical! It’s so interesting reading these old news clippings regarding boxing going way back. I gave serious thought to getting a NYTimes subscription just to read these old clips about boxing. It’s really fascinating!

How far back do the online papers go with a subscription?

From what I can tell when dealing with the NYTimes, you can access articles for free from around the 1914s and earlier or so. Once you get up in the 1920s, seems that access is more restricted. Dempsey-Louis might have some more info since he posts articles from the NYT often.

The only access I have is the NY Times. It costs $7.50 a month and goes back to 1851. I wish I could find other newspapers but most are overly price, wanting something like $4.50 for just one article and nonsense like that.

There is just one problem with the Times, the entire year of 1964 seems to missing, anytime I look for anything on Clay-Liston I it comes up empty. Otherwise it is a loot of fun to browse and read.
