    BUT

Doesn't the whole steroid thing taint his entire record?

And he was an incredibly dirty fighter overall.....
Did he ever test positive in his prime years? There were allegations regarding the whole Even Fields incident but were there any positive tests?

Exactly. Those claims were when he was the bald holyfield and looked more like a bodybuilder than a boxer.

PED usage and testing were not really anywhere near as big an issue prior to the whole Balco thing. Athletes in all sports used them without much impunity.

Holyfield hired former champion bodybuilder Sergio Olivia to help him move up from cruiserweight size so that pretty much tells you that PED's were part of the strategy.

His heart was reported to be suffering from a condition often seen with HGH usage...however that was speculation. He had also been diagnosed as having a left ventricular issue and later a hole in his heart. But that was then dismissed as a lifelong birth defect that never caused him any problems.

Even Benny Hinn the televangelist had a go at him claiming to have cured him with the help of god of course.

He gets a pass because people liked him and now he is ******ed from getting hit in the head by heavyweight boxers for 20 years. Sympathy man, you don't talk smack about someone showing clear signs of irreversible brain damage that is only going to get worse.
