The point is by beating Ali, no matter the situation, Holmes legitimized his title. He beat Ali, Norton and Shavers. Tate beat Coetzee who had all of 22 total bouts at that time.
    - -So, you would watch a healthy albeit meaner'n junk yard dog full growed man beat up an invalid and claim lineal descent?

Words fail to express the derogation of your honor and humanity I see in you.

I don't watch murder videos either, but of course that and prrn all the rage among the newly crowned dishonorable.

Holmes best Norton, Shavers and Ali. The sum of the three proves Holmes was the best and deserved the title post Ali.

If you believe Tates win over Coetzee was more valid then you should once again get your head examined.

        - -Big John took the exact big $ fight Tubsy who was still skinny ducked.

And brought home the bacon to paraphrase the great Joe Gans.

Is your dishonor infinite or just. Morbidly obese?

By the general public absolutely. Not too many people know his name

but to boxing fans, he is a legend. I have him easily in the top 10 heavyweights ever. Great jab, terrific right had, good footwork for a big guy, solid chin and amazing recuperative powers. Reach, stamina, determination.

Coetzee and Tate had no claim to fight for the worlds heavyweight championship. Only Holmes had the credentials.

No, Larry is one of the best ever, no doubt about it.
Great jab, great chin and fought forever.
He wasn't the most fun to watch at times, but his skills can't be denied.
He did well way past his prime and except the Tyson KO (which was on short notice and 2 yr layoff) he kept all the losses close.

The unfortunate thing with Holmes is his physical appearance didn't match his style or personality, and being a super star depends on that. Ali was ultra confident and good-looking, Tyson and Foreman were killers and looked like Killers. Then you got Larry, lipping everyone off looking and sounding like he belongs in a special needs house but he happens to be a gifted athlete. That's the ugly truth about greatness, in everything.

Yeah, he's underrated, he's easily top 3 HW of all time but he came during the transition period from Ali to Tyson. Bad timing for him as he was stuck in the middle. Plus, he didn't do himself any favors when he took a dump on America's golden boy at that time - Rocky Marciano.

                      - -The Rock may not have been the nicest in his personal life, but like his models before him, Dempsey and Louis, he was always gracious when talking about other fighters.

Lar lacked such class and the public didn't like that.
