One thing is for sure, 4 world champions in every weight division is very, very unhealthy for boxing.

Can you imagine if UFC had 4 champions per division?

I hate having multiple titles per division.

But it can be argued that boxing benefits by having several "world champions" in several different regions of the world.

If Michalczewski had to fight Roy Jones to be a champion he likely never would have been one. But by not fighting Roy and STILL being able to claim a championship the guy was able to make a nice living in Germany and increase the popularity of the sport there.

Yeah, that would suck. The closest they get to that is having multiple promotions with world champions, so it's kind of more like pro wrestling in that way. And nobody wants to have their champions fight each other at the risk of their fighter possibly looking bad. Too bad it's not more like the old NWA, where the world champion could wrestle or do worked matches with any promotion part of that one banner. MMA needs some kind of NWA type deal, where title holders can fight just about anyone from a major promotion.

People are saying now that MMA has turned into boxing, because its all about names and no longer about belts.

Well not completely. But names are what sell tickets and PPVs for them. If more people act like Conor McGregor and do that cherry picking crap, then it will completely turn into boxing.

Is Rosendo Alvarez in the running? His career is on whole another level to Calderon's...

Calderon had more attention in the states due to being Puerto Rican and getting some US exposure, but he wasn't elite little men imo. There's a lot of guys just as good or better who just didn't get the same attention.
I would NOT put Alvarez in....

Yeah, but I thought he was offered that fight. Should've just rematched Johnny Hendricks.
