The man could fight but was a definite steroid bull. That takes some of the lustre off. Anyone can look at him as a welterweight and tell.
Yeah, Klitschko retired. He had the fighting mentality of a girl. In 70 fights he never figured out that you have to hit an opponent more than he hits you to win. Rather, he figured it out (according to him) and then retired. Good riddance. Any so called champ who takes six months to retire while putting the world and another man's career on hold to play a little game, gets no sympathy or accolades from me. He pulled his Tszyu. Now get out, you selfish hog.Comment

his best / most entertaining fight is probably juan diaz. at least it had the most consistent two way action. the pacquiao fights all had lulls. that's just the kind of athlete manny was, explosive guys need breaks, and marquez was ok wiht the breaks because it let him set up his counters.
maybe the 4th fight edges it out because of the stakes and the knockout, but let's not forget that manny was on the slide and he'd actually earned an L to marquez, but hadn't gotten the credit, in the 3rd fight.
marquez had one of the prettiest and most exciting offenses late in his career. throughout his career he always had the prettiest offense, the guy was a technician and a true beristain fighter.
he's definitely an all time fighter and a first ballot hall of famer. if he hadn't beaten manny arguably twice in their series he'd fall just short of all time status, but the knockout definitely was a big win in spite of manny's deterioration.
i think in time we're going to see fighters who have had their urine and blood frozen get popped for PEDS, and i fully expect marquez to be on the list. either that or heredia writes a book once the statute of limitations on PED skullduggery runs out. what his body went through in his late 30's / 40's was not natural. and if it was legal every world class fighter should hire heredia, because he's a god who can literally make you age in reverse.
if anybody would like some info on heredia let me know and i'll see if i can dig up some of my sources. he'ers the short story on him:
he failed as a mexican discuss thrower when he tried to make the olympic team. took advantage of his own background and his fathers background to get into biochemistry and become an expert on PEDS, eventually developing his own designer drugs for which tests didn't exist. after his athletic career he was enlisted by athletes and coaches, including sprinting coach trevor graham, who was banned from all international competition by the olympic committee because so many of his athletes got popped. heredia testified that he provided drugs to graham from 96 to 2000 in front of a grand jury during the balco scandal.
there's a german documentary in which heredia travels to mexico to get PEDS and injects them into his own stomach. PEDS are what he does, and for that reason i consider marquez the most obvious steroid cheat in boxing who was not caught.Comment

A legend and the man that inspired myself too start boxing myself retired today. He is someone that every aspiring boxer should look upto, left his all in the ring everytime and his knowledge in the ring, heart and generalship are unreal, it'll be bought up everytime he is mentioned and sure there's controversy around his 4th fight with Pacquaio and too be honest it's the fight that made me question wether I still wanted to follow and participate in boxing as a sport due to the evolution of Performance Enhancing Drugs, wether true or false on wether Memo supplied them to him in the training camps leading upto their fight, that knockout is a moment in boxing which will be engraved into my mind forever.
I remember watching it live on stream on my own and as soon as the punch landed I got goosebumps, never had a feeling quite like it before or since.
Where does Marquez rank and what are your favourite fights / highlights of his career?, he is for sure in the top tier when it comes to making boxing into an art, a ****ing genius in the ring who never stepped back and always found a way to answer 1 punch with 5 of his own, just a beautiful boxer to watch and I cannot put into words how much I admire this man.
Edit: Where's my man BigStereoType at ?, should have beat me too this bro.
Brilliant, awesome fighter. Always loved his style and watching him. I've made a lot of posts about him in the NSB threads so don't want to post too much but he's always been one of my favorites. I can watch him over and over. A master.
My favorite fights of his, it's hard to put them in order...
Manny Pacquiao 1 - This was great because he got knocked down 3 times in 1 round and look at how he came back from it. Very exciting fight, the best of all 4 to me (2 and 3 were both less entertaining and a lot more controversial).
Marco Antonio Barrera - This fight was a lot closer than the scorecards indicated, in my opinion. Although I still think Marquez won, this was a good competitive fight against another great fighter who could box and punch just like he could.
Juan Diaz 1 - This was the classic Marquez fight. Diaz was actually really good around the time and his volume punching wore down most guys at 135. A very good pressure fighter against a great counter puncher and all the rounds were exciting. It was FOTY for 2009 and rightfully so. Brilliant back-and-forth.
Manny Pacquiao 4 - I don't look at the PED aspect too much because I thought they were both on it (I don't want this to turn into a debate about that, though). Both of them had big moments, the fight was action-packed and it's got to be one of the most shocking and greatest knockouts of all time, certainly of this era.
Best of luck to him in his life after boxing. He gave us a lot.
I knew he never had the balls to have one last real fight.
You really are a vile disgusting creature, aren't you troll?
Marquez was a duck. He never fought prime Barrera and was scared to death of Erik Morales.
And lets not forget the steroid abuse.
Marquez is a fake mexican...Comment

His link to that steroid maker ain't a good look neither.
The chicken ducked Erik Morales, Edwin Valero, Humberto Soto
Joan Guzman to name just a few.
He got beat the fcuk up by Freddie fcukin Norwood for fcuksake.
Norwood throws like 5 punches a round.
He got ruthlessly outboxed by bum fighter Chris John.
He went life and death with Diaz and Katsidis types of the world.
He was made to look like a flat footed fool by the homeboys Mayweather and Bradley.
He couldn't decisively beat Manny without drug cheating.
Some legend...
He ducked Morales completely turning down career high paydays multiple times. And the punk didn't have the balls to fight Marco till he a was a mere shadow. (and still went life and death with Barreras corpse)
Humberto Soto, Joan Guzman and Edwin Valero had that btich shook.
Especially Valero.
Even his trainer (Nando Berinstein???) was afraid of Edwin Valero. Look it up.Comment

How does that work?

Stop consuming drugs, man.
Marquez a duck hahahahaha.
Marquez outboxed Norwood and John and got robbedComment

Don't think drugs could **** your brain too the extent of this guy. Clearly just browsing Boxrec and saw some name that he thought should of been on there without doing any actual research, I'm surprised he didn't say anything about Hamed to be honest.Comment

Are you new to boxing?
Marquez turned down Morales offers for a career high paydays multiple times.
Look it up.
He was frightened of Guzman and Soto.
But he was absolutley sh'iting his pants at the thought of fighting Vlero

Clearly you are new to the sport.
Did Marquez turn down the career high payday that was offered by Morales? Yes or No?
Did he turn don multipl offers from Morlaes? Yes or No?
That chickensh'it f@ggot could have fought Humberto Soto, Joan Guzman Edwin Valero to name just a few.
But instead he fought the likes of:
Johnny Walker
Baby Lorona Jr
Terdsak Kokietgym
Likar Ramos
Serhiy Fedchenko
Marquez only has one real win in his entire career. And he needed steroids for that. Hahaha.
An old derick gainer is probably his best legit win.
And even that was against a shot guy c-level who didn't even want to be there.
Learn some facts you dumb b@stard.Comment
