Force=mass x acceleration. The big boys have the mass but they don't always have the explosive change of speed from point A to point B.
Naturally! Bigger the fist, bigger the punch

Like the bullet from a gun Velocity ( measured in feet per second) vs Torque (measured in foot/pounds)

Length & width of the barrel combined with the weight of the lead in the bullet
So not to be too sarcastic, but in response to the much unlikely possibility
That a middleweight landed the hardest punch of all time

I once took an elephant down with an air riffle

Say the mass of one of these lumbering plodders is an 8 but the acceleration of their punch is only a 4...that doesn't pack more force than a mass 5 guy whose blows accelerate at a 7.

        Johnson Ketchel

One hit each, the rest is history

So it's your contention that smaller weight fighters can never hit harder than heavyweights?

Yes, and I don't see how anyone can think otherwise. Well not in a logical sense anyway

Ketchel & Bob Foster are two pretty good examples

Both hit nearly as hard but nowhere near as hard, let alone harder

Peds these days though, am probably wrong to say never

Michael Moorer likely hit harder at light heavyweight than John Ruiz ever did at heavyweight.

As did Roy Jones, though I shudder to think of a more lacklustre heavyweight puncher than Johnny Louise
