Duran and Leonard had great stamina.....leonard stopping Benitez in 15 , hearns in 14 , Duran with Buchanan and the brawl in Montreal with Leonard in a toe to toe slugfest.
Joe Frazier , Marciano , Julio Caesar Chavez , Aaron Pryor all had fantastic stamina and always came on late in fights

        - -Ref stopped Benitez on a dubious cut with 15 sec left in a close tit for tat fight of no importance other than to elevate Ray.

No sport does shameless like boxing and they got you hook, line and sinker.

Leoanrd was ahead on points dropped him twice and when Benitez got stopped he didn’t complain lol...but it’s still the fifteen round no matter what way you but it.....it’s about stamina not about the stoppage.....understand the thread and what I say is true , stopped hearns in 14 with a blitzkrieg blast in 13....Duran all out war for 15 rounds as well...so yes leonard had a real engine yes or no lol

            - -Ray had decent stamina, but that weren't no firefight, it was a juke and jive with nothing being the predominant result.

And only 1 KD with 15 sec on the clock, obviously designed to eliminate dubious judging since the ref could not know Ray ahead on the cards. That's what I thought then and reinforced by uncounted fights prob approaching a thousand I've seen since.

Account here with the usual glowing plaudits with Benitez perhaps angling for a rematch at 154 since he struggled to make 147 since he did near none for this fight.

Interesting to see the reverse psychology used to rouse up Benitez for this fight. He was an apex head case.

he knocked Benitez down two times what the hell have you been watching ......once in the third and in the 15th round....stop reading wiki and actually watch the fight and it was a fairly close fight but leonard was ahead by at least 2 points by one judge and 4 with the other two.

I’ll quote from boxers now....Jim Jacobs (Benitez manger) was fine with the stoppage and said he didn’t want Benitez to get hurt.
The point is leonard was ahead already and padilla is not a time keeper.
My advice to you is watch the god damn fight and stop quoting from a source without actually knowing the details.
As I said Leonard had a great engine and often came on late to stop his opponent or finish strong.....I’ve just given you 3 of his fights where he showed great stamina ...Benitez , hearns , Duran all late round fights and the 1st Duran fight was non stop for 15 rounds and ranks very high on the toe to to toe list

There were two knock downs yes, but Queenie was making a point about the 15 round stoppage being based on one knock down (and not a very dramatic one at that.) -- The question at hand wasn't how many knock downs occurred during the fight but whether or not Benitez should have been allowed to continue after one KD in the 15th.

IMO The third round knock down was a flash KD with Benitez unhurt by the blow (possibly a jab). The 15th round KD hurt Benitez more but he could have continued. He was up by a count of two and ready to fight by eight. He was throwing back when the fight was stopped; the fight was stopped too quickly.

I am with Queenie on this one, they wanted to make Leonard a star!

                      - -What part of the English of I watched the fight in the day do U not understand.

I posted the boxrec link that accurately sums up the fight as I remember those many years ago.

It weren't no fight, it was a shadow boxing exhibition with a dubious stoppage seconds from the finish. There was zero damage dished out other than an incidental clash of noggins and a KD.

Nobody wants to watch such a lark in the moment much less later knowing the results. Only as a jurist in a court of law would I watch such shadow boxing.
