People seems to forget that Pep fought Saddler after 137 fights and after surviving a plane crash, that took plenty of him, not saying that he wouldn't have struggled with Saddler in his prime, he had the power, the height and was as dirty as they come.
Why Pep lost to Sandy ?

Its good that you post doe, history forum is slow and only couple of ppl post here, no interesting threads i need to make Them myself ,ppl are playing in games like Fury beat Wilard ROFL.
Why do you think that smaller Gomez would stop bigger Morales who was never stopped in his prime and fought ****ers like MAB or Pacman ,Gomez was stoped doe in his Prime. I agree that he can win on points doe, but Erik reach make it hard pluse he is tougher man.Comment

-Not saying an excuse, it's just that not many fighters would be able to compete at the top level after a PLANE crash, they are going to make a movie about Vinny surviving and still fighting after a car crash.
-Damn i forgot to answer the Bazooka-Terrible thread, i'm gonna reply there.Comment

-I like the Cotto vs Margarito comparison and Saddler and Pep were way better than Cotto and Margo.

He sure was lucky to survive that crash, considering that plane crashes took the lives of Marciano and Cerdan.Comment

Yes, papers at the time were saying that he was looking far away from his best form, the problem was that Pep was a mover, took his footwork and he only had that old time toughness and smartness.

Saddler's footwork wasn't particularly good, in fact he wasn't an especially skilled figher at all. Pep probably outlanded him 3 to 1 in punches landed in their fights but he just couldn't keep Saddler off him as Saddler just walked through his punches. Pep's usual holding tactics didn't work as usual against Saddler as he was too big, strong and had the will to fight through it and was as rough as they come. Saddler was a brute-force relentless monster.
It is not clear that Pep's plane injuries affected him long term. He was out for 6 months and then back to winning ways, in fact a high proportion of his best victories came after the plane crash. You can never know if it really did take something from him or not but there is no real reason to think it did. Saddler deserves the credit for being too much for Pep to handle.Comment

The plane crash took something out of him. He suffered a fractured leg and a fractured back, many observers seemed to feel that the he lost some of his speed after that.
And Saddler's roughhousing was a good way to throw sand into the works of a fine oiled machine. The technical Ricardo Lopez ran into the same kind of trouble when Rosendo Alvarez roughed him up.Comment

So you guys are saying Saddler turned it into a street fight. Didn't he also get away with a lot of fouls like rabbit punches or groin punches?Comment
