If Marciano trained so hard, then how come he wasn't over-trained for any fights?

Ok. I accept your acknowledgement of defeat.

Good informative discussion with you, as always.

I read interviews with trainers today and they say they don't want their fighters to train too hard and peak too early before the fight. I wonder why this didn't apply to Marciano...maybe just cause he was supernatural.
He was a fitness nut and always kept in shape. He didn't run 15 miles a day when he wasn't in camp that's for sure. Not even sure he did that in camp on a regular basis.

Yeah and look at them in the ring with Marciano. You can plainly see how they were dwarfed by him. LOL.

Yeah, definitely. I didn't mean to imply I thought he MUST HAVE been exaggerating or lying, just that these are the possible explanations. I don't really doubt that he trained hard, though judging exactly HOW HARD is always going to be subjective.

I’m guessing he knew his limits.

Im thinking that a lot of the time "over training" is kind of like one of my great aunts. Her name was Florence and she was easily 400 pounds on a good day at the right buffet. She would take james Toney out if there was one spare rib left... guaranteed. Anyhoo... Aunt Florence would order a meal "Ill take five of these appetizers, two steaks, extra side of potatoes, and five desserts...." the waiter would then ask "and what to drink Madam" and she would snarl, give me a diet coke, I have to watch my figure!

Yeah like the fighter who says... I can't train today I might overtrain!

Every athlete is different. Some are brilliant athletes, but simply can’t take a lot of daily exertion, or they will fail to recover and maybe grow ill. Others are like Michael Phelps - they can take almost any amount of high intensity, high volume training, and can bounce back very quickly.

Some of recovery is training, some is genetics. I could train like Mayweather, but it would probably put me in the hospital.
