  • You can go back in time and watch ONE unfilmed fight from Ringside...

    What do you go for?

Maybe a great performance from your favourite fighter?

    Or an apparent brutal war?

    Or a bit of both?

    Just one fight.

    And explain why.

Willie Pep vs Sandy Saddler 2

Would love to watch this fight.

Ring magazine fight of the year.

Only fight in the series that Pep got the better of Saddler and you know its going to be an amazing display by both these greats.

The bell rang, and to the astonishment of the crowd, Pep went on the attack. He tattooed the face of Saddler with his quick left, landing some thirty-seven jabs in the opening stanza. The hand speed of the former champion was back, something many observers thought Pep had lost after watching his lacklustre performance in the first clash. The New York Times called Pep’s start to the bout “a demonstration of blinding speed that had Sandy looking like a novice.”

Saddler marched forward relentlessly, in spite of Pep’s jabs, but the Hartford slickster kept his big punching rival off him by way of his counter punching prowess, as described by The Chicago Tribune: “Almost always Saddler was moving forward, measuring Willie with unblinking eyes, but Pep was too much for him with his counter-punching.”

Counter-punching wasn’t to be Pep’s only strategy for keeping Saddler at bay. He utilized some ‘questionable tactics’ throughout the fight and was warned by the referee for wrestling in the first round and heeling Saddler in the face in the third round.

But Pep couldn’t hold back forever the waves of destruction that Saddler threw at him and in the fourth round the champion began to dent the defenses of the challenger. Sandy landed savage rips to the body and grazed Pep’s face numerous times, always just a few inches away from landing a blow that undoubtedly would have ended the contest, such was the dynamite power of Saddler’s fists.

Sandy landed a hard left in the fifth, opening a cut on Pep’s right cheek but the gash, which bled throughout the rest of the fight, did little to stop Pep from dominating his opponent. He landed all manner of punches over the next six rounds, attacking from every conceivable angle and displaying his supreme footwork, all the while avoiding the aggressive attempts from his adversary to land a knockout blow.

Saddler started to gain more momentum and began landing his heavy hands in the thirteenth, opening a new cut over Pep’s right eye, and in round 14 it looked as though he may have finally caught up to Willie as he connected with numerous teeth-0rattling shots, but to everyone’s surprise, Pep weathered the storm and came out guns blazing in the final round. As The New York Times reported: “[Pep] gave his greatest thrill in the fifteenth when, after weathering the jarring fire of the fourteenth, he came back to fight Saddler all over the ring with a strength that few, if any, thought he possessed.”

The crowd erupted when the scores were announced and Pep’s hand was raised. “[W]ild turmoil broke out in the Garden,” reported The Chicago Tribune, “which was loaded with rabid Pep fans as announcer Johnny Addle gave the unanimous decision.”

Man so hard, i believe Sam McVea was in a fight with 45 knockdowns or something like that, i believe.
But Robinson vs Gavilan or vs Armstrong.
Harry Greb against anyone, especially Tunney.
Stanley Ketchel in his prime (my favorite old timer(.
Michael Nunn vs Virgill Hill in the amateurs (i'm sure the footage exist, but isn't on the internet or anyone collection)
      Charles vs Burley.
Any fight of a prime Elmer Ray.
      Any fight of Johann Trollman.
The referee of the Griffith vs Paret fatal fight, Ruby Goldstein, was touted as the next Benny Leonard, sounds like a fighter i want to see.
Any fight of Bernard "Superbad" Mays, the fighter that almost retired Tommy Hearns.
Any fight of Chuck Walker, an amateur fighter who was one of the best of the 1976 olympic squad for united states.
      Langford vs Gans.
      Langford vs Ketchel.
      Langford vs Jackson.
Also the fight were Aldama knocked out McCallum.
Stevenson vs Visotsky or Savon vs Delis.
Kindelan vs Hurtado or Kindelan vs Gonzales.
      Jones vs McClellan.
      I just don't know.

Prime Ray Robinson to me he is the GOAT, I'd pick his fight vs Armstrong would have been incredible. Also would want to watch the pioneer Jack Johnson

        Watch the gladiator Melankomas fight.

Also Barbados Joe Walcott the one who came up with the phrase "the bigger they are the harder they fall"

I heard he was a 5'2 welterweight but would fight Heavyweights because fighters would duck him. They we're using smaller gloves as well

Yeah, all the welterweight Robinson fights. Not only see, but would love to have them filmed if going back in time. As well as most Harry Greb fights, maybe do them up nice in HD.

Something with Dempsey. Off the top of my head I'd say Firpo.
