I have to disagree here I think valuev is a slower plodder but he brought a better chin and a bit crisper punching ability overall than Carnera . Sharkey also admitted to throwing the Carnera fight that won him the championship. to many shady dealings as well to put Carnera over Valuev. If Carnera fought in the same era as Valeuv does he do as well? I doubt that, one thing what helped Valuev was durability of taking a punch of course he is 7 feet tall 300 plus pounds. Some can argue that size doesn't matter but a guy that size will almost always be able to take one shot at a time, you really have to pound him out. Carnera only had a 50% k.o percentage so the power thing is not a give me.

Everyone is arguing the same old snoring points instead of answering the thread.

I still say Fury is P4P the worst heavyweight champion to date, as in the biggest bum yet. I cannot stand a 6'9" fighter who can't break his way out of a cobweb. His style is based on running. I expect something extra from the mouthy. The real argument with Fury is how close to the bottom he is, not how close to the top.

Fury hasn't even defended his championship yet?
He's not even in the discussion. even if he doesn't im pretty sure no one will agree with you based on he still has to fight a 6'6 talented giant the likes no worst champion mentioned here has had to face. No matter what size they were,or are like a 6'9 fury. Worst Hw championship p4p is still Carnera . im also pretty sure fury hits harder than he did, just by watching some k.o footage.

Fury isn't anywhere close to being the worst. By the end of his career he might very well be considered very highly indeed. Give the poor sod a chance to prove himself at least.

I still say Buster Douglas, talking strictly lineal champs.

              -A LIST "worst"-
Marvin Hart; Jess Willard; (+ = "better") Tommy Burns; Primo Carnera.
              -B LIST (worst)-
              Leon Spinks
I would not include Braddock; Briggs; Rahman; Mike Weaver; or John Ruiz (Ruiz "boring"? Alright! And he also is one of the most tough heavyweights to ever live!)
Oleg probably belongs on list like this!
Leon "unique". He "punctured" his era! WHO WILL EVER FORGET? We ~all~ were "astonished!" But..he had only a couple of fights experience. But all in all Leon May of expended himself as a a.t. great amateur.
Even the "typically worse" champs such as PRIMO CARNERA...they added to the history of the Sport and are generally "celebrated"!
We "wish" we could achieve fraction of what they came thru.

Initially I went for Leon Spinks.
Primo Carnera and Jess Willard were useless, but at least they were big.
Spinks was up against a fat old and very ill 'Ali' with early onset Parkinsons
But then Spinks at least tried to fight.
So I decided to plump for John Ruis instead.
He had to be the worst ever fighter to get a title.
What Tua did to him, Oh My God !!

Now that was a read worth a giggle, I enjoyed that.
                    Fury is a bum.

I will tell you why not, Tony. The night Douglas beat Tyson he would have beaten about 4/5 of the lineal historical heavyweight champs. That is an intuitive statistical evaluation. I think it is pretty close to the truth.

No one ever came back for their first defense in more shameful condition than Douglas, I will grant that, and if you want to use that as the criterion for worst, I can see the reasoning of that.

You can make an even stronger point simply by noting that while Douglas was fighting Tyson he was not yet champion, but merely fighting like a great champion.

Of course almost the same is true of Tyson Phony while he was fighting Vlad--he was not champion yet, except he was fighting like a putz, wghich is how much that was required of him to beat Vlad who I never thought much of anyway. In the end, a guy fighting like a putz could beat him. That is what I always knew about him anyway--a bigger man came out there and stole his putz game on him. That is actually what happened.

Now I have almost got myself agreeing with you.

I suppose strictly in the language of the question of the post, I have to relent and agree with you. But I am going to give Tyson Phony this much:

He fought the putzyiest heavyweight title winning effort in memory, and I fully expect him to carry on obliviously from his putzy comfort zone. That is a comfort zone holding no entertainment value for me, just as it was with Vlad. It is a good thing Phony can talk, otherwise I can't see anything to draw customers.
