Why Do Contemporary Refs Stop Fights So Quickly

    Safety in one word.
    In a perfect world the fighters corner would stop the fight quicker than the referee.

      And the strange thing with the NFL is that now after the extra precautions with rule changes and fewer practices and shorter ones, there's actually MORE injuries in football, also in baseball, with pitch counts and innings limits, there's more injuries as well. Boxing I don't know about the injury rate though.

      Maybe they need to go back to some of the old rules and toughen these guys up.

        Some wrestlers also quit because they get sick of the politics, like Phil Brooks aka CM Punk. But injuries are big there too. I was glad to read recently that in the PG era, as they call it now, they finally stopped doing chair shots to the head. Don't even know why they even allowed them in the first place. Chris Benoit had the brain of an 85 year old Alzheimer's patient because of all the head trauma he took. Steroid use probably had something to do with that as well.
