Did Jack Johnson really throw the fight against Willard?

jack Johnson was having some mediocre performances in Europe prior to losing in Cuba. comparing Dempsey Johnson one must figure out what there respective primes were and how there styles would interact.

Lol...I have a theory. I don't know this but I figure that sometime after the fight some joe gets the idea that Johnson threw the fight...looks at a picture of Johnson shielding his eyes on the canvas...goes to Johnson and asks leading questions to the effect of: "gee lil arthur...did you throw this fight, given your position on the mat where it looked like you signaled and were just waiting for the count?" So johnson of course says "oh yeah, you heard about that?"

I don't know when this theory was first proposed, but I have a feeling it surfaced some time after the fight.

In the documentary I watched he said he was shielding his eyes from the sun and wasn't really hurt, but yeah I agree with you. It was pride.

the man was ridiculed for much of his title reign i think his legacy was very important to him
