Other nations like Norway had their peak way back in the 800s and 900's over a thousand years ago but anyway i digress, i will say it this way, guns and rocket launchers don't make you tough, they usually make you a lowlife. Boxers in the old days had to fight far tougher opponents under far longer fights with light gloves and had to fight all the time never getting time to get over injuries......but I know nothing anyone says will ever have an impact on you.
Well funny enough I live in Australia, which in now basically "America Lite" politically and economically, and that's why the consensus is you just can't do what we did years ago today because it isn't "SAFE" anymore. Likewise there are lockouts in every major city now at night time because of the dramatic rise in street violence.

I am afraid you are not well educated on this issue.

And now for a quick questionaire I give all potential nut bags...

        1. What is your ethnicity?

        2. What is your national identity?

        3. How old are you?

        4. Do you hang out with people who champion nut bag opinions and feel you need to fit in?

        5. Do you stand to profit any money or any professional, personal or family pull by promoting nut bag opinions?

        6. Do you have a history of mental illness or do you score very low on intelligence tests?

        7. Are you susceptible to drug abuse or brain washing or have you ever been in a cult?

        8. Are you religious?

These 8 questions can build up a typical picture of the "level" of nut-baggery we are dealing with here and the "type" of nut bag.. Whether it's a brainwashed nut bag unable to think for themselves or one of the "nut bag elite" responsible for promoting some of the most damaging ideas this great sport has ever had to endure.

And I'm not just talking about RECENT nut-baggery either- this goes way beyond. According to newspaper articles from the 1800's throughout every single era from then to now, EVERY generation thought the successive ones were weaker.

So according to this logic, boxing has been getting progressively worse since the beginning. It started off the best it could be, and got crapper and crapper ever since.

John Sullivan was a god compared to Klitschko and Jack Johnson was "much tougher" than Mike Tyson right?

The truth is, if boxing was even HALF as bad today as it was in even the Ali era... NOBODY would ever watch boxing, probably EVER again!!

what do you mean not well educated on this issue, I am Australian, I know how violent places like the Oxford tavern in Petersham and the notorious Jolly Roger in Newcastle were like in the 80;s and 90's and how bad the Ocean beach Hotel was in Umina in the 2000's were like, hell i wuz there And I saw many times the Westies aka The Blacktown boys beating the living hell out of the skinheads in Sydney back in the 80's in brawls numbering near a hundred guys, the mulletts always won those fights as unlike most of the poser skinheads the mulletts really could fight and had some serious streetfighting skills... i saw all this...... there was also the Milperra, Viking Tavern slaughter between the Comancheros and the Rebels where half a dozen ;lay dead but thankfully I wasn't there but if you are as old as me you would surely remember it........ but I think living in Sydney in the 1920's would have been far worse, hell not only were you worried abote Kate and Tilly's razor weilding gangs of no mercy thugs but if you crossed the police back then you were in a whole new level of hurt.

But there will be a rematch most likely, so we have to wait and see before passing any 'final judgments' on the man.

                  Ok.

Are you sure your NOSTALGIA isn't kicking in here? MAny many people share your view that we were tougher in our day.

Fact is, it is ALWAYS the SAME!

Fighters fight, they are happy when they win, sad when they lose, sometimes they get it so bad that they are maimed which usually occurs AFTER they are already "honourably" beaten anyway and I don't think "toughness" comes into play here from either the winner or the loser.

Do you really think a guy who loves to hurt people today and wants to and can take a lot of punishment back which serves to enrage him further, do you think this guy isn't as hearty as a similar specimen from the past? Based on what?

The ONLY difference is that the mental pressures and cut-throat edge that is forged from an increasingly harsh social system today produces violence on a scale unheard of in the past- where they are willing to take things further than before in order to drive their point home even further.

From a boxing viewpoint, ALL boxers are ALREADY the toughest specimens. It's just there are many more of them today for the sieve of selection and the best ones have superior records against a broader pool of opponents than in the past. And the champions BEAT these unparalleled class of opponents in turn.

sure there will be but his legacy is surely already made. one more win in a rematch will add something to his rep but only slightly

The moment elroy enters, this thread goes full ******.

Back to normalcy now, Wlad is an ATG heavyweight, top 20 for sure, top 15 maybe. He could be higher if he comes back and beats Fury and then goes on to defend against someone like Wilder or AJ.
