Compared to mike Tyson- ALL other boxers are dead boring! (To the general public).
Louis vs Schmeling II - Is it the most historic fight ever?
Collapse

Because not so many people know now who Louis or Schmeling really isn't that important here as we are talking about the most HISTORIC fight of which it is definitely up there given the climate of the fight and World War 2, just read stories about how virtually every family in the States tuned in too their radio to listen to the fight and how worldwide it is believed to have the largest audience for any radio broadcast, next too no fights have had the impact on the world that Louis - Schmeling 2 has had, no Mike Tyson fight comes remotely close, people watched Tyson fight because of the entertainment value and sure neither Louis or Schmeling come close in that virtue to the general public but in terms of importance in HISTORY.
However as we all know, Schmelling was definitely no **** anyhow therefore we can see how even back in the 30s the hype train was in force.Comment

Yes, that is certainly a given there. In terms of the fights historical importance, sure by that measure it could very well be I admit.
Not even sure what this mean but back in the 1930s Schmeling was absolutely seen as a ****.
I admit you have corrected me here.
Weren't you one of those extreme nut bag posters I've encountered in the last week or so?
It's unbelievable that you have been able to provide some sort of factual enlightenment given the usual delusional persuasions.

Understandable and I think that's what makes Muhammad Ali the GOAT. Not only did he beat the competition, but he entertained the crowd with his charisma. And this was a heavyweight! If Ali was born right now can you imagine how large his social media presence would be?
Louis was put into that spot. To fight for America, and we know what Ali thought of that..Comment

The compelling argument to make it the most historical boxing event ever, is the fact that it was the most hysterical, given the times (international political climate) and the nationalities of the protagonists.Comment

I personally would rank Ali/Fraizer 1 historically the biggest fight ever.Last edited by juggernaut666; 11-06-2015, 04:15 PM.Comment

The Louis/Shmelling fight itself in the ring however lost some juice as Shmelling did not actually want to fight let alone win this one because of Hitlers portrayal of him and given **** Germany something to cheer about. This is no secret, unfortuanlety we were robbed of Shmelling actually trying to win, though he was years past his best anyway. It was reported Smhelling just sitting in the locker room not warming up before he came to the ring even.

Schmelling did not have the luxury of telling Hitler to shove it. And before people wrote about it, it was very convenient for people to have Schmelling as the bad guy. What is nice is that since I have become an adult the truth about Schmelling has become known... As a kid my old man was under the mistaken belief that Schmelling was sympathetic to Hitler.
Its also worth mentioning that even some of the most brilliant thinkers in Germany, including philosophers, were taken in by National Socialism. When you are a university professor at heidelburgh and someone tells you the government wants to support your reseach it sounds wonderful... Until one realizes what is wanted in return.Comment
