    Punch drunkenness

I know this is a somber topic, but who are some notable fighters who have become punch drunk? I know Ali and Meldrick Taylor are two.

Boxers Dementia is the term for lasting or life long illness.
Punch drunk is a phrase used for acting "unaware" after a fight has been stopped or ended and a fighter is not cognizant of his surroundings.

Amazing that fighters like Jake LaMotta at the age of 94 yrs and over a 110 bouts sounded punching during his career however remained very sharp throughout his middle and latter years. Meldrick on the other hand had less than 50 bouts and has had serious problems for many years now.

Add in the Partkinsons Syndrone and most pro fighters run a very real risk of
Dementia problems at some time in their lives. Trama to the head is not reverseable and ever concussive situation is very dangerous.
The business of boxing is the dirty part but the fighters take all the "real chances"!

the first part just isn't true.

punch drunk has been the term used to describe the long term illness, which is dementia pugilistica.

Yep and others just call it being "punchy." Like Rocky Balboa or Soda Popinski (originally Vodka Drunkenski).

Chacon is a real sad case. Wilfredo Benitez is another. And of course Jerry Quarry.
