I don't think Tunney deserves to be on that list. In the first place he defended his title twice and he retired at the top of his game to marry an extremely wealthy society woman. It was the marriage or boxing. Tunney could have easily held the belt for another couple of years ending up with a tremendous resume. As it is he ended up something like 70-1-1. (Both loss and tie were to Harry Greb.)

I didn't realize it was only guys with no defenses, thought it was just a single reign..


How about ken norton.. He was awarded the belt and lost in his first defense to Holmes.. I remember the best heavy to never win a title thread and a poster swore that Norton should be considered a champ because he was awarded it and considered champion heading into the Holmes fight

Norton is a perfect example, especially considering the dubious way he was awarded the title.
