He was a highly overrated guy (he wasn't bad, just more highly considered than he shoulda been) likely cuz he had a good story & was white. I think him fighting on free TV helped make him a bigger star too. I think he didn't win a fight past the age of 22 or 23 & was kinda a lower budget Ray Leonard with the retirement & comeback stuff. I think most of the names mentioned would have beat him in some sci-fi peak vs peak kinda fights, but I wouldn't hate his chances vs Gatti, Castillo, Broner, Ward for sure & I'd think he could surprise some of the other guys. Mancini vs Corrales coulda been some foty ****.

He def beats broner, Ward, gatti

Valero unknown and impossible to tell

50/50 with Freitas, casamoyer, watt, johnson, corrales

      Slight underdog to castillo

Gets clearly beaten by Oscar, shane, marquez, pernell and chavez

A good strong figher that got hit too often to be considered great. Entertaining and always came up with a good effort. MARKETED very well.

          Actually he is Italian-American.

He beat Camacho and was beating Bramble at the time of the cut.

For whatever reason Camacho got the decision though clearly lost.. Ray retired for another few years then came back and lost to Greg Haugen..

Would you say he was better or worse than Kelly Pavlik?

Kelly was the undisputed man at middleweight so I would say Kelly.

                That decision was a joke.

No one ever had an easy night with Ray. Not even the great Alexis Arguello.

Ray was never the same after the death of Kim. He lost that killer instinct. He was on the verge of being the biggest star in sports. He was the one to replace Ray Leonard.

For those who have not seen The Good Son,I highly recommend it. I really enjoyed it.

Mancini does not beat Ward! Everything else here I agree with. How in heaven's name would he beat Ward? Or are we talking Mickey Ward?

Would have loved to see mancini versus Gatti.

Oops my bad yeah he beats Mickey.

Not going to say that Mancini would be the one to replace Leonard, Camacho could probably have done that, but on a lot of levels, Ray was underrated. Strong, good puncher, he could have beaten Watt, O'Grady, and Rosario in the right circumstances. Possibly Davis jr. but that could be a tossup.
