    1) Downward - executed like hitting downward with a butt end of a bolo, like hammering with the closed fist.

    2) Outside - executed like swinging a bolo from inside of the body to outside, point of contact can be anywhere from forearm ridge to base of closed fist (butt-end side). This variance of an outside elbow strike, the Outside Bolo Punch can be beautifully executed as a turning Outside bolo punch, a favorite technique of Yaw-Yan fighters, the added momentum and movement of the hips gives extra knockout power to it's unexpected turning move.

    3) Inside - executed like swinging a bolo from the outside with a slashing motion towards the inside part, point of contact can be anywhere from forearm ridge to base of closed fist (the butt-end side).

    4) Bottom's up - executed by swinging/slashing upward from inside of the body, point of contact is the butt-end side.

    5) Backfist Snap - executed by snapping and retracting your fist, point of contact is the backside of the closed fist.

    6) Inside rolling knuckles - executed with the knuckles rolling inside with a push.

    7) Uppercut - executed the same way as the western boxing uppercut.

    8) Straight Punch - executed the same way as the western boxing straight punch.

    9) Upward Punch - executed by bring the punching fist vertically upward.

    10) Crossed Punch - executed the same way as the western boxing cross-punch.

    11) Overhead - executed by tucking your head with your one arm and hitting overhead with another fist.

    12) Downward Rolling knuckles - executed with the knuckles rolling down with the push.

These are the different types of bolo punches according to a website..

I believed that would be a hammer punch, the bolo that I am talking of is the one I described like you are cutting sugar cane a slashin uppercut.

Leonard's bolo was more of a sraight/jab type of punch.

A few years back I was sparring with a 5th degree Black Belt and out of nowhere I got conked on the top of the head by a hammerfist.

Didn't know it at the time but I guess it was the dreaded Bolo!

this is not the real bolo punch. it is more like the signature punch of mayorga, but it is thrown higher. it is like the combination of an overhand punch and a hook. the main target usually hit is the upper part of the opponent's left/right side part of the head, probably the part of the head just above the ear.

              very dangerous

Here is the dictionary meaning of Bolo as found in google

Bolo -A generic term for a sword or a chopper in the Philippines.
                -----------------------------------------------------------------
                bolo punch
A Bolo punch is a punch used in boxing. Bolo punches are not one of the three traditional boxing punches (jab, uppercut and cross) and they are seldom used; much less so during a combination.

Ceferino Garcia is said to have been the inventor of the bolo punch. He, Kid Gavilan and Sugar Ray Leonard are widely recognized as three of the best bolo punchers in boxing history.

When asked once how he came to develop the wide sweeping uppercut, Garcia said when he was a youth he used to cut sugarcane in the Philippine Islands, with a bolo knife, which he wielded in a sweeping uppercut fashion.

The bolo punch might not even be thrown at all. It really is a circular motion that one boxer does with one of his arms to distract the opponent, causing the opponent either to take his eyes off the attacker's other arm, or actually focus on the fighter's other arm. When the opponent concentrates on the punch that is circling, usually the bolo puncher would sneak in a punch with the hand that is being sustained. When the rival concentrates on the hand that is not moving, then the bolo puncher usually uses the bolo punch to attack his target.

Two of the most famous cases of a fighter using the bolo punch were when Leonard avenged his loss to Roberto Duran (see "The no Mas Fight") and when Leonard defeated Thomas Hearns in their second fight (see: Sugar Ray Leonard vs. Thomas Hearns).

Leonard punch was not really a bolo punch. Gavilan invented the punch. Some trainers did not consider this a knockout punch. You also leave yourself open. You must be quick

                      Beau Jack!

In Georgia, Beau [Jack[ had learned the bolo punch, a theatrical blow in which he would crank his arm like a windmill before delivering a long reckless right.
