Duran Moore comes to mind. What others?
fights that should have been stopped earlier

Johansson-Machen is the worst I've ever seen. Start at about 4 minutes in. Notice how the idiot referee is actually counting out a guy who is being attended to by his corner.

Mercer and Tommy Gunn.
Notice how the referee turns Patterson around so he can see Johannsen. Floyd has no idea where he is and is heading in the other direction. No way that fight continues in today's climate.Comment

Mercer Morrison was a brutal KO no doubt. Anyone remember the Roy jones jr fight with branning? Where Roy gestured to the ref to stop it, and he didn't, so then Rjj finishes it himself with a one punch knockout. RJJ is a true ATG, he was so good in his prime it looked choreographedComment

I believe it was the first Patterson / Johannson fight where Floyd got up and tried to walk to his corner. Ref should have stepped in but that was before Benny Paret's death when things were looser.
Same goes for Graziano / Zale 3. Imagine a contemporary ref wiping the fighters gloves off when he can't even stand without leaning into the ropes and waving the fighters together.
I kinda cringed watching the KO on the ropes in the first Pryor / Arguello fight. It took place so quickly I couldn't have blamed the ref had it gone bad though.
I couldn't blame the ref for Mancini / Kim for that matter although he apparently must've blamed himself. Guy was charging right into Mancini right up until the KO.Last edited by JimEarl; 06-11-2015, 12:34 AM.Comment

Mancini/Kim and Jones/Harding. Hell in the Jones fight, even the announcers were calling for the ref to stop the fight, which he finally did in the 11th.Comment

Almost all boxing tragedies occur because of action along the ropes or in the corner. This kind of positioning often shuts the ref out from a clear view. The ropes hold fighters up a good deal more than we imagine. The posture which enables leaning against ropes is impossible anywhere else.
If we have to have ropes, I say put them in the middle of the ring. The Big Knockput concept has it right. Get rid of ropes and corners to eliminate at least 90% of ring fatalities. Line the edge of the "ring" with huge pillows.Comment

Even by past standards this looks horrific. Jack's head is bouncing around like a speed ballComment
