    Ezzard Charles biography

There has been a new book on Ezzard written by Bill Dettloff. I haven't read it, so of course I can't really recommend it, but I'd bet that it is a good read. Dettloff used to write for Ring and his work is generally very good. On the minus side the book is $25 for the Kindle version, which is kind of steep. I do intend to get to it eventually though. If anyone reads it first, please post comments here.

I'm bumping this because the Kindle price is now $14.75, which I found more reasonable so I bought it. I've only read one chapter (it takes me forever to read a book), but it looks very promising.

I wonder if the only reason Moore was ever able to be lightheavy champion is because Ezzard moved up? Or in his maturity could he have kept up with Ez?

If I get any insights on that from reading this book I'll pass them on here.

After you are done reading please post if you feel it's worth the price. If so I might consider purchasing.

Finally finished this book. Well worth the money and time to read it. The author did an excellent job of being objective. Too many biographers develop a weak spot for their subjects.

Very detailed accounts are given about Ezzard's life and career. It must have been difficult to write because, truthfully, there aren't many good Ezzard Charles stories. He didn't have the charisma of Ali or the dark side of Liston, and his life outside the ring was relatively ordinary. But there were lots of interesting facts about his contemporaries (Louis, Walcott, Marciano, etc.) too.

If you are interested in learning about Charles' career and the period he fought in, I couldn't give this book a higher recommendation.
