Also, if I'm not mistaken, Benitez was Ray's brother in law at that time.

I always thought that the crotch grab was directed at Bob Arum.

Believed in witchcraft and dejeus employed a witch to put a spell on duran before there second fight. Duran supposedly cut the heads off some chickens to relieve the curse and went on to win by ko after getting dropped in the second round. Duran also brought a Cuban witch to Madison Square Garden to put a spell on Davey Moore or to bring him luck.
Its the Latin Pride thing: True story, I worked for a while as a super in a New York City building and on this one line of apartments, wouldn't you know it? the stars of fate made it so on the bottom floor was a Cuban family, the next floor up was a Central American Family, on top of them a Mexican family, the next floor was Dominicans, and at the top apartment a Puerto Rican family. So one day the Cuban gets a leak and as I enter the apartment he says "Darrell those ****in 'Salvadorians are a bunch of slobs caraho!" So I go upstairs: "Darrell those mesicans are a bunch of slobs, this leak has been here since they moved in!" so now I know the leak is at least two stories, next up knock on the Dominican family door: "Oh Darrell those Puerto Rican Maricones! they make this leak thanks for looking at it, what a bunch slobs!"
Well upon seeing the Puerto Ricans, the leak was caused by a plumbing joint in the wall coming unsodered, no big deal...

This story which is true! illustrates why Benitez and Duran were at odds, rivalry? you bet! By the way ALL the families described were good people who insisted on tipping me, asked about my family, which ALSO says something about these people! haha

Joe Louis's eerie, silent, blank expression was terrifying in a Mike Myers, Jason Vorhees kinda way. Who else could stare down Fidel Castro in the face without flinch.

Speed and skills can be quite the intimidating factor as well. I think early Roy Jones intimidated many fighters, especially after witnessing his speed.
From personal experience, speed is the only thing that would kinda throw me off.

Hagler, Tyson just had that look. Benitez had that stare down of death, Hearns as well

Gerald McClellan was also very intimidating and scared a lot of opponents during the staredowns. One of the main reasons he was called a mini Tyson.

Aaron Pryor, Tyson, Liston, Hearns and Duran come to mind first.
