If you watch films of M Bauer he had a unique delivery....They say it was from his time spent lifting stuff on the family farm. He had very powerful shoulders and enough reach to really generate strength. When he threw his right he really threw it, almost like a baseball....hardly the way a guy like Louis, who had a text book delivery with no telegraph, threw his right.

The thing is many people feel that after he was directly responsible for one fighter's death, and indirectly (perhaps?) responsible for another, that Max deliberately toned down his punch. This would fit with his personality because max was a nice guy who really didn't like to hurt people.
