  • Did Tyson try out for the 84 oly games?

If so what division and who defeated him?

Don't follow Amateur stuff but if I'm not mistaken he did try but didn't qualify and the weight was Heavyweight.

Oh boy, you just triggered Corso to come in here and seek validation as usual for being involved in the Tyson camp.

I believe he was eliminated by Henry Tillman in the boxoffs.

He was, in the heavyweight division (201 lbs.). Tyson was just 17, but got his revenge over Tillman as a pro = 1st round KO in 1990.

And what a beauty that was.

If I recall correctly, Tyson knocked Tillman out of the ropes in their amateur bout and Cus said that Tyson was robbed in that match.

not making the Olympics did not seem to hurt mikes exposure as his Ko's against nondescript opposition made sport center thru Jacob's connections. Willie Dewitt knocked Henry out with one punch then lost a close pts node in the oly finals.

bkm just because I know a lot more than you doesn't mean I disrespect you the way you do to me and I guess anyone who trumps your knowledge on subjects needs to be belittled.
I was there in the corner in 80, 81 & 82 as the Region One coach with Carlos Espada a trainer from NYC who was training Juan LaPorte at that time. Cus never attended the regionals or nationals after 1980 because of health.
Teddy Atlas represented Tyson and I was there to keep an eye on both of them for Cus along with being the coach. I was able to get Teddy in the corner and that loosened up some of the rules about who deserves to be assisting.
Yes Tillman scored two over Tyson in the Open Class but they were close and the committee at that time thought that Tyson would be penalized for a "low head" as he moved forward considering international rules at that time. The Eastern block (back then) all stood in the air like they were searching for planes and the Cubans did to. Philly styled guys were not appreciated in the late 70's and 80's and Tysons style was similar!
I believe that's what swayed officials to penalize Mike and that's why he never represented the States in any of the bigger world tourneys.
He won the J.O. nationals and the Ohio State Fair which was as big and bigger actually than the nationals because it was more opened to all youngsters to come and compete. I attended the Ohio Nationals up till 1982 then my club was represented there by the fellow who runs the gym now. My son Ray and Tyson fought on the same team for years as youngsters!

bkm, I'm here to share some of my experiences after 50 years in boxing I don't need anyone's validation especially some punk azz ***** like you! So there you go I did insult you!!!! So let it go sonny we already have a resident
jerk off named Tooooool two would be just to annoying.

lol. I just think it's funny and unusual to see a man your age seeking validation by mentioning his accomplishments in just about every post he makes, and using that to insult and discredit everybody he comes across. The old trainers I've met are always humble and don't need to seek validation and attention because their careers speak for themselves. And that's the second time I've seen you outraged by a humorous insult even though you throw mud at every poster that disagrees with you. You sure provide entertainment here though, I like that.
