Where do you rate him? In the top ten? I think he should be, all considered. Not top 5, but top ten.

Jack Dempsey as an All Time Heavy?

Probably about 5th.
He's one of those guys that either gets way overrated or way underrated.
He was great. He was fast and he could ****ing crack.

Super overrated... He spent more time as a celebrity then an actual champ defending his title..
Most of his opponents were like Tyson fury, Derek chisora caliber fighters..
Never defended vs a black guy
Super overrated in my book, and I could name dozens of heavys that would beat him..

Marciano was not better than Dempsey in my opinion. Jack had more refined defensive skills (Tunney says he couldn't get a clean shot at his jaw in two fights) and his footwork was faster.
His technique on short, inside punches was superior too. He was a harder hitter.

I'm sure the feeling is mutual when I say we'd normally be at odds but in this instance it's for the greater good.
It's not that I feel Dempsey doesn't deserve his historical dues, it's just that to consider this guy a top 10 ATG is disrespectful to other boxers who fought the best and much tougher opposition even relative to their era and performed admirably. Why should they take second fiddle to a guy who played dodge'em with the decent opponents of his own time and was ultimately beaten by a smarter boxer?
And don't give me this long count rubbish, Tunney was completely coherent. Dempsey should have read the rules first. He was trying to be a ****** cheat!
