  • Latino Champions in the 60's and 70's

I was looking at statistics and in the late 60's-70's, there were way more Latino champions than any other race. Between those years there were about 50 total, while the second highest (Blacks) had 20 champions. Never before or since have Latinos been so dominant in boxing. What happened? There were obviously a lot of great Latino fighters during this time but did they just happen to be better or were there other reasons? I feel like there had to be other reasons than just a coincidence.

Looking at history, immigration could be a factor such as from the Bay of Pigs in 61.

"Latino" (I hate that term) is nebulous. There are different cultures with very distinct styles and reasons for success all of which qualify under the term "Latino."

Cuba and Puerto Rico have an amazing amount of great fighters considering the total population of those nations. Mexican fighters fight using different techniques and have their own success'. meanwhile European and Central/South American fighters are different yet.
