A look back at Bowe vs Golota 2

And something struck me that I did not remember before. Bowe was on the verge of victory in the 3rd round. He was knocked down the round before and took a lot of punishment but survived. As Golota lost energy from his attempt to finish it, Bowe made it a brawl and knocked Golota down and was close to forcing a stoppage and that's when the coward Golota started throwing low blows, brutal ones that took a lot out of Rid**** and stopped the action for nearly 2 minutes so Golota recovered as well.

See, most people seem to just remember it as Golota was completely dominating and took a way out with a DQ because he's crazy, but that's not the case at all. Yes, he turned the tide and brutalised Bowe after that when Bowe gassed out again, but he did it in a dirty, disgusting way and he knew what he was doing.

Bowe was close to getting one of the greatest comebacks in HW history, I think he could have gotten it in the 4th when he knocked him down if Golota didn't throw 5 low blows to survive. And this was zombie Bowe. He looked dehydrated and shot. His legs were completely shot from the start of the fight and his punches sloppy and inaccurate but still packed power.

When he finally got himself DQ's again at the end of the fight, same story. Bowe was not giving up and started hitting Golota back again despite all the punishment he had taken so the coward quit again.

I guess my point is that this was not the case of Golota 'throwing the fight away'. That was the case for the first fight but not in the second. In the second he quit and might have been stopped if he didn't cheat.

Indeed. It's not a matter of Golota being crazy and throwing a fight away that he was winning, it's just that he's a dishonorable cheater who does those things only when he faces serious adversity.

To follow up on my post for more specifics, in round 8 Bowe lands a hard right hand that stuns Golota @ 1:45. About 10 seconds later Golota lands a blatant low blow. See a pattern here? Amazingly Bowe hurt Golota several times more that round despite the incredible amount of punches he had taken.

At 1:22 of round 9 Bowe stuns Golota with a counter right hand. Golota responds with low blows 15 seconds later. And all the way up to the DQ at the end of the round Bowe was hitting back the whole time.

I just don't think I've ever been so disgusted by the actions of a fighter before and having people somehow not crucifying him for it just because he was ahead on points in the fight? Golota should be one of the most hated boxers in the history of the sport.

Both those are fights were highly entertaining.. We now know how it all turned out, but at the time, it was completely shocking and dramatic

Golata was always a dirty cheating fighter, and it's sad because he had the talent to be champ..

If bowe had beaten Golata that night, there was speculation that Tyson was next for bowe. I heard reports being the original plan was for bowe to stay busy with Golata and Tyson take care of Bruno 2, and then have Tyson-bowe in Yankee stadium. But instead Golata and bowe turned into a riot and it's rematch was super lucrative, and don king lined up some stiffs in seldon and old evander.. I believe they mention it in the legendary nights episode..

Didn't Mike Tyson end Golata's career by breaking his cheek bone and somehow breaking a bone in his neck? I remember Golata found a way to not come out of his corner in between rounds . The newspapers the next day were the ones reporting broken bones and stuff.

But yeah , I never could understand that fight when he was beating Bowe and just kept hitting him low.

This is what I'm talking about.

Golota was not "just" hitting him low while winning. He was hitting him low every time Bowe was hurting him and mounting a comeback. He did it to save his sorry ass and buy time like in the 3rd round of the second fight when Bowe almost stopped him before the low blow.

I wish people did not have this false perception and memory of these two fights. Again, Golota should be one of the most hated fighters in the history of the sport.

IRCC I thought Tyson had broken golata's cheek bone, nose maybe both and that's why he quit and afterwards when getting examined they found brain trauma which basically retired him for a few years til don king dug him up as a challenger to Byrd, Ruiz, and Brewster

I get what your saying, but Golata isn't the first nor the last fighter to fight dirty to avoid a loss..
Just in recent memory a lone, Tito did it to Vargas, cotto did it to Judah, Judah did it to Floyd
I don't condone what Golata did, but he isn't the only one

The problem is I don't think Bowe had any gas left in the tank. Did you see him in there? He looked emaciated and gaunt. Yeah, he got all that weight off that he had ballooned up to but it looked like he crash-dieted it off in a short period of time before the fight. It was a big mistake. He should have started sooner and got the weight off the right way.

^Absolutely, it's nothing short of a miracle that he was still standing after 9 rounds of that kind of fight. But I believe he would have had enough energy left to finish off Golota in that 3rd round where he knocked him down. It's too bad the coward had to smash a low blow in there to get almost 2 minutes to recover from Bowe's attack that had him wobbling around.

I don't think that excuses him. Plus those guys didn't do it anywhere near as much as Golota did, plus Golota did it in many fights in his career. I think he deserves the most hate out of anybody.

Golota was ahead in the 2nd fight too. He threw it away because he's a nutter. Remember there was just one round left, the low blows saved Bowe again. Bowe took a hell of a lot of punishment and was decked in the 2nd and 5th. Wobbled on several other occasions. If Golota hadn't had this meltdown again, he would have won the fight. There was no reason for him not to just box and win.
