Benitez or Hagler. The scoring was skewed towards Duran in both cases but I think Wilfred actually out scored Duran more than Marvin. Your view's?

Which fighter did better against Duran

Benitez did better,, he is a very tricky fighter and was on his A-game that night,, probably one of his best performances, plus duran was not in the best shape/frame of mind

Benitez was said to have taken that fight very seriously. His motivation was at a all time peak for Duran.

He had just lost the No Mas, looked awful against a couple of 154 contenders and was still just stepping up to 154. Even Dundee was surprised by how bad he looked, how off balance and what the weight was doing to him. No footwork, bad balance, and would go on to lose badly again straight after. He was at an all time low through that period and constantly talking of retiring.
The Benitez fight was still better though. He really looked great in that fight, and while Duran was a shell of his prime self, he would still beat most of the best.

I'll accept Duran wasn't in the greatest shape for fighters like Kirkland Laing. But for a fighter of Benitez caliber I'm not buying that he didn't prepare for it. Benitez style had a lot to do with why Duran looked bad. This wasn't green Davey Moore.
Watching that fight I didnt see anything that indicated Duran was in poor physical condition. To say otherwise totally discredits a brilliant performance by Benitez.
Duran seems to have that excuse in his back pocket for every poor performance. In some fights it's legitimate but I don't see it for this one. Duran had plenty of time to adjust to the weight.Last edited by joseph5620; 03-30-2014, 07:18 AM.
