  • The Battle of the Z Boys

Hard to imagine this not being a major ppv in todays time because it was an all time great match up.

    WBA champion
    Alfonso Zamora 29-0 29 kos

    vs.

    WBC champion
    Carlos Zarate 45-0 44 kos

combined record of 67-0 with 66 knockouts

Notice some crazy guy jumping into the ring in the first and being thrown out by the riot police that were on hand in case tensions grew.

    Facts;

Both fighters were originally trained by Arturo "Cuyo" Hernandez but after Zamora won his title, his father, Alfonzo Zamora Sr. did not get along with the trainer and bought out his son's contract .

Although there was no bad blood between the boxers—"We are friends and visit each others houses but on this occasion I'm prepared to forget that," said Zarate—the same couldn't be said for their managers,
    Zamora Sr. and Cuyo Hernandez.

"I liked the boy, I still do, but to get rid of the father, I would have sold Zamora's contract for a sack of pinto beans" - Hernandez settled for $40,000 instead.

Immediately after the fight, Alfonso Zamora Sr. and Arturo Hernandez got into a fight that was broken up by the police.

Zamora the fighter was never the same after the fight losing 4 of his next eight bouts. Which to me is a reason that if a trainer gets you to a championship, you should stay with him.

Zarate's punches look lethal. Everything he lands is precise and damaging.

Another fact is that even though they were the two bantamweight titleholders, it was a 10 round non title fight. And it didn't hurt the gate even a little bit, with both fighters evading the WBA and WBC sanctioning fees.

Zarate looks to be a huge bantam,, he looked like a fighter in a higher division than Zamora..
Zarate got some chin on him because Zamora landed some hard shots early...

Is it me or did the fan that jumped into the ring have a piss stain on his crotch lmao

When I made this thread I wondered if you were there, with the fight in your neighbor hood.

Oddly enough, even though the fight took place about 10 miles away at the Forum, we drove an hour to Anaheim to watch it closed circuit. I won't go to a live fight if I can't get a decent seat, and that fight was too hot to get one at an affordable price. I remember it was on an early Saturday afternoon and we had a great time.
