Finally it seems as if a lot of posters right here in this section has little to no interest in lineage. Personally I care but that's a bit beside the point.
It would be ideal if true lineage could actually be preserved, but if we're being realistic, it is a losing battle. The people who run boxing now don't care at all about it and soon it will be something discussed only by boxing historians.

That's the way I see it. How can you take it seriously when a fighter like Shannon Briggs was the lineal heavyweight champion? In a lot of cases in recent history, the lineal champion was not the best fighter in the division. I can't accept that as something to take seriously.

        Sure. It's sad but true.

Lineage will remain relevant for statistical purposes. For example you (most often) go by lineage when determining whether a champion is about to break Joe Louis's record.

Joe's record seems very safe based on that criteria. Imagine how many title defenses he would have made if he didn't serve in the Army.

            Yeah it's mindblowing.

Who cares about lineage or lineal? Can't believe this argument went that long.

9 out of 10. Mostly down to lucky guesses.

The one I got wrong: never heard of BUDDY Baer until just now. Gee, the guy was a behemoth compared to Joe Louis.

Unlike any other sport, boxing had its own, unique history - with a great portion of lineal champs that could, more or less, be traced back to the 18th century.

In a few years time, businessmen like WBC:s Jose Sulaiman and WBA:s Gilberto Mendoza made boxing fans believe history ain’t of importance.

And so, boxing lost its special status.
We should have cared more …
