Oops faulty memory! I thought that was a unification fight.
Kessler unified with Beyer though. And that was in Denmark so that doesn't count either.

Does it have to be the first time they won a title? The reason why I wonder is because Luis Ibarra won his first title against Betulio Gonzalez in Venezuela, lost it to Tae-Shik Kim, but regained the same title once more after beating Santos Benigno Laciar in Argentina.

That’s actually a quite remarkable feat, because it is easier said than done to get a decision in those countries.

Anyway, here are a few others:

        Gilberto Roman - Jiro Watanabe
        Alfonso Lopez - Erbito Salavarria
        Hilario Zapata - Shigeo Nakajima
        Soo-Hwan Hong - Arnold Taylor
        Miguel Canto - Shoji Oguma
Santos Benigno Laciar - Peter Mathebula
        Bernabe Villacampo - Hiroyuki Ebihara
        Orzubek Nazarov - Dingaan Thobela
        Pascual Perez - Yoshio Shirai
        Bernardo Pinango - Gaby Canizales
        Ricardo Lopez - Hideyuki Ohashi
        Antonio Avelar - Shoji Oguma
        Gabriel Bernal - Koji Kobayashi
Nana Yaw Konadu - Gilberto Roman
        Amado Ursua - Hilario Zapata
        Freddy Castillo - Luis Estaba
        Frank Cedeno - Charlie Magri
        Humberto Gonzalez - Yul-Woo Lee
