  • Greatest Boxers never to fight in the US

When talking about the greatest ever boxers it's hard not to show bias for American fighters, or fighters who have campaigned in the States at some point. Even if, like me, you are not American it is hard to escape this bias.

But not all great boxers have fought in the USA. Who do you think is the greatest boxer never to fight in the US?

The first name that springs to my mind is Nico Locche

    The legendary Sven Ottke.

Ha! First one I thought of as well. No. 2 was Henry Maske, but upon inspection, I can see that he fought in the US once early in his career.

Laszlo Papp never fought in the US. Neither did Jimmy Carruthers

If AM's count, then Teofilo Stevenson should be mentioned.

Dariusz Michalczeswki would be another one. Probably some very good Asian fighters fit here too. I was surprised that Fighting Harada didn't though.

So was I! I was just about to mention him, but thought I'd check BoxRec just to make sure - and was surprised to find, that he actually boxed in the US once!

          HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY.
How about a little trivia quiz to kick off the new year?

          The rules:
World champion/title: Recognized as such by BoxRec.
HOFer: Member of the IBHOF, regardless of category.
          Knockout: KO/TKO/RTD.
          inside the distance: KO/TKO/RTD/DQ/TD
Wins/losses: We're counting both official and newspaper decisions.

          Ok, here we go:

          ROUND 1
In a long career with more than 10 world title bouts, I only lost twice:
In 2 world title fights, in two different divisions - against the same opponent.

          ROUND 2
Name a boxer who has faced two world champions at least 10 times each.

          ROUND 3
Longest unbroken streak of consecutive wins in one calendar year:
          1. Harry Greb 45 (1919)
          2. ?

          ROUND 4
Which world champion has fought the most HOFers - without being a member of the IBHOF himself?

          ROUND 5
Which non-HOFer has ko'd the most HOFers?

          ROUND 6
Name the only non-champion to be ranked in the Top-10 by The Ring EVERY year for an entire decade.*

          ROUND 7
When the two boxers entered the ring for this world title bout...
... one of them had never been in a fight that lasted the full distance
... while the other had never been in a fight that didn't last the full distance.
What title fight are we talking about?

          ROUND 8
I lost 3 world titles in the ring - in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd round.

          ROUND 9
          Who can "claim" this record:
Most consecutive fights without scoring a single win inside the distance?

          ROUND 10
Name the first boxer who, as a pro, fought a gold-, a silver- and a bronze medallist... from the same Olympic Games.

          ROUND 11
Lots of Olympians - medallists as well as non-medallists - have gone on to become pro world champions. But who was the first two-time Olympian to capture a world crown?

          ROUND 12
Name the first boxer, who 100 fights into his pro career could proudly say, that he had scored at least one win against EVERY opponent he had met until then.

          ROUND 13
Which boxer took part in the most world title fights that ended in the same round?

          ROUND 14
Which father & son both lost more than 50 pro fights?

          ROUND 15
Which 2 boxers have shared the most world champions?

I guess McGoorty doesn't use this forum any more or the name Les Darcy would have been brought up already
