  • Poll: Best fighter never to be world champion?

Made new thread for the poll because the discussion went slightly off topic, as usual caused mainly by me. In light of that I'm not putting Norton in the poll because regardless of your views on the legitimacy of it he did get the WBC belt and I think people can agree he was no less legitimate than many champions in the current four belts era.

I also consider Langford a champ but even in my own mind that is more debatable.

I largely put the fighters that were mentioned more than once, hopefully I have not missed anyone who deserved to be there.

Vote for a number of guys as i'm sure Langford or Burley are the clear favourites.

    Typo, Wills not Willis.

I'd probably go with Charley Burley or Holman Williams.

You'd be very wrong if you chose Papp.

That's at least if we're talking Professional careers.

            Perhaps as an Amateur.

Did pretty much noting as a Pro which is all that actually matters, IMO.

I don't even consider Amateur Boxing nor watch it.

As I young lad, I read a biography of Jack Johnson, so Sam Langford was a name I got acquainted with early on.
Thus, he gets my vote. Though I’m not sure it’s fair to the other greats in this poll …

Some great fighters on the poll, but without the two Australians!
Not that I'm from down under, but both Les Darcy and Dave Sands were a lot better than Harry Wills.. Harry imo was avoided, more for his clumbersome awkwardness than anything else.. Bit like Tyson Fury lol

                  All time heavyweights, Sam Langford.

                  Living heavyweights, Ike Ibeabuchi.

At the risk of seeming snobbish, honesty compels to say that in the grand scheme of things, non-champions normally fail to cross my radar screen and are more apt to activate my yawn reflex.

That aside, I tendered my vote for Sam Langford by virtue of being the most prominent name on the poll.
