  • Greatest British fighters since 1945

After comments I made in the Carl Froch appreciation thread it got me wondering what my top 20 British fighters since 1945 would be. I have 16 that i'm happy with, if not necessarily in this order, anyone else care to make their own list as well as criticize mine?

I limited it to post 1945 in part because there is good video footage on I think pretty much everyone on this list.

I'm not a huge Hatton fan so I am perhaps biased the other way. Hatton is still a strong candidate for 17-20 though.

I'm hoping someone has good knowledge on Rinty Monaghan and Johnny Caldwell as they have both been blind spots for me.

hatton should be higher than alan minter IMO,, I never thought that highly of him in historical terms.. Good fighter but nothing special about him IMO

He did beat Antuofermo twice as well as a number of the best middleweight contenders of the era. I agree he was nothing really special but neither was Hatton.

Hamed shouldn't be #3 or in top 5, but Froch should be in top 10 if not top 5 for sure.

I don't know why people overlook him in these sort of rankings.

I'm sure many would agree with that, I might be won around to that view but at the moment I rate Hamed higher than Lewis.

Since 1945 so that excludes Fitzsimmons.

Froch top 5 but not Hamed top 5? You cannot be serious.

I also think because Froch is active it is harder to judge. So for example if Bute beats Pascal then that increases Froch's win against Bute I think. I confess I am not, and never have been, a big Froch fan but I do think it is best waiting for him to retire to get a better perspective upon his career.
