    Any thoughts in Lamont Brewster?

The guy showed some amazing qualities. His ability to take Wlad's beating and ultimately deliver....His fight against Golata.

It always seemed to me that his biggest problem was not being taught how to win rounds against some of the more mobile Eastern Euro fighters...guys who fought on the fringes of a weak division by getting punchstat victories, i.e. outpointing the opposition with no real dominance to speak of. Brewster against Golata looked like a Dempsey fight imo.

I don't fancy Lamont to be as accomplished as some of the guys we discuss here however I do think that with a bit more training in the sportive aspects of the square circle, sans his eye injury, and with a few more karmic events going in his direction we may have had a solid B level guy, a gatekeeper supreme dring the early days of this century!

    What do you guys think?

He is average heavyweight,,, blowing out golata is nothing to exciting since lewis and others have done it,,,,, It was quite spectacular though,,,

I met brewster ringside at the rahman-barrett fight in chicago,,, he was super cool, I asked him when he was going to fight klitchko again, and he just smiled and made the money sign with his fingers,,,,

Solid heavy but no world beater,, had a good punch,, but he is kinda like a buster douglas or oliver mccall or micheal moorer,, had one big win for the belt then kinda faded into the shadows,,,,

If he was prime today he would be a top 10 guy, but i think an any era he would always be a 5-15 ranked type guy,,,

I do like him alot, he was fun to watch most of the time

A shame what happened to him, like Samuel Peter, Ruslan Chageav and Oleg Maskaev, he's an average heavyweight who managed to pick up a world title and he holds a victory over one of the Klitschko's, he achieved more than what Seth Mithcell is ever gonna achieve that's for sure.

What made him average imo was stuff that could have been improved upon. he had all the trimmings. I think he had more natural ability than a guy liks Briggs (for example). The biggest problem he had was he needed a KO to win fights. He seemed to me to not have a concept of how to set things up and work off the jab.

I would have liked to see him with a world class trainer who knew heavies.

At the end of the day it is fool's gold. I just remember him being outpointed in the ******est fights.

My opinion on Brewster is that you can look at his wins over Wlad and Golota but I think his loses to Etienne and Charles Shufford as well as his controversial decision over Kali Meehan, right after the Wlad win, that truly defined his abilities. He did have a good left hook however.

You aren't average if you have one of the best chins and best left hooks ever.

Deliver what? Wlad was out on his feet before Lamon Brewster landed a punch

                    a) He BEAT Vlad. And in so doing took a lot which showed ability and he did hit Vlad...sheesh It is silly to say that he didn't hit Vlad. His win was based on Vlad punching himself out.....that is a fact, saying he did not deliver his own punches is BS.

                    b) yes he got exposed....he couldn't win rounds. As mentioned that was my perception of his problem. It was imo a case of not mastering a strategy, not being trained to fight in a manner where a guy (like Lychovitch? spelling) who was pretty average can outpoint you. He lost to very average guys yet showed the ability to do much more.
