    gerry cooney vs tommy morrison

who wins and why? this would have been one awesome fight. both had crushing left hooks and suspect chins. I slightly favor cooney but a tough one to call. morrison seemed to have faster hands but I think cooney had the heavier hands of the two and had a big height and reach advantage

(And a thought: was Cooney's low blow against Holmes the hardest low blow in boxing history?)

But I wouldn't had bet any money on this match-up. It certainly would have been a great one.

        Cleveland Williams too.

I'll go Cooney just on his power early on, too dangerous for Tommy boy.

If this goes to the later rounds Morrison has him, i just don't think it will.

I think morrison would have a chance of catching cooney first and getting him out but my gut says cooney gets morrison first. I just think hed overpower tommy

Morrison but only if he boxed smart and did some of the tactically astute in-and-out raiding he perfected against Foreman. I am not all sure Cooney likes that edition of Morrison who would duck in and out of range, throwing quick combos and then moving away without seriously exchanging bombs.

Against bigger, stronger but slower guys than him I always thought Morrison looked more than decent reverting to being a box-puncher; he had a half-decent jab and when he actually paced himself and did not launch all his bombs at every opportunity he was surprisingly effective.

Whether Tommy had the discipline to pull this strategy off is another matter; he loved a war and would have probably relished the opportunity to try and fell Cooney with a few big, early grenades!
