Not an elite fighter, but the dude could rumble,, He would give any heavy trouble..

big power, pretty decent chin,,, he would be a top 3 or 4 guy right now,,,

could never get over the hump and win the big one, much like a ray mercer

Started late because of a long prison stretch. Big strongman (for that era) with heavy hands and a fighting heart. On the downside he was stiff and limited. A more seasoned fighter like Quarry totally schooled him.

Not a chance he could ever be on a serious all time top 20 heavyweight list.

An excellent heavyweight from an excellent era. But he could be outboxed and schooled (Quarry/Young) or outslugged (Foreman).

He was certainly better than the likes of Shavers, Bonavena or Bugner......and he matched an overconfident Ali very well in his title challenge prior to the stoppage.

At his absolute prime I'd be confident of throwing him in with just about any heavyweight in history and expect him to acquit himself passably well.

He dropped Shavers pretty early to take the W, and he almost took George Foreman. He wasn't too easy for Ali, he did call Muhammad off the ropes and got the crowd on his side. He could make top 20-25.

When you consider he started boxing late and in prison he did pretty well. He didn't turn pro til he was 30 years old. He got by with power and strength but as expected, had limits technically.

In spite of his limits he did quite well. His all time great brawl with George Foreman was one of the best fights ever.

he was an "oh-shieet" fighter....the kind of guy who the manager says your fighting "ron" his record is ok, hes north of twilight at 30 plus not to worry...wait a second! but has a chin of Iron, loves to fight, and can KO you real fast to which anyone with any sense, expecting an easy one would say "oh-shieet!."

Weaver was another one, Mercer was mentioned, Shavers..... These guys could ****, it didn't matter their record, if they ate cornbeef or not, etc. In this day and age of protecting one against loses, etc, these guys are a dying breed...guys that can fight at the elite level, as challengers who keep a champ honest, I see Chisora maybe being one of these guys
