Has anyone watch Carlos Ortiz/Ken Buchanan

Carlos broke his hand and did not continue. Just wondering if it was a competive fight prior to the stoppage?

I saw that fight live on closed circuit TV. It was the co-feature to Ali-Patterson II. Ortiz looked listless during the fight, but Buchannan was always caution first so he didn't really open up on him. Back then you couldn't hear the audio so I never heard anything about a broken hand. It appeared that Ortiz just quit in his corner. One rumor I did hear was that Ortiz was drunk at the weigh in that morning. That night was the end to two hall of famer's (Patterson and Ortiz) careers.

Ortiz was well and truly finished by this point.

Buchanan was fairly dominant. Ortiz was well past his prime and Buchanan was pretty much at his peak. Not a fight that gives much evidence for either men's real abilities.

It is very interesting that Durans camp was viewed as avoiding both these fellows at this time.

Buchanan deserved a rematch. Duran dominated the fight but Buchanan did have his moments plus the stoppage was highly contentious, Duran could easily have been disqualified. I'm sure Duran would have won the rematch though.

I do not have a link but read it duran's biography Hands of Stone. After reading Ray Arcel's biography he described than after the non title lose to esteban They would avoid having Duran fighting in colder climates.
