azumah nelson v barry mcguigan
both well known feather champs who coulda cashed in on a unification bout. seemed like nelson was calling mcguigan out but instead mcguigan loses to a total unknown and byby money fight
Two from the heavyweights will always keep boxing fans guessing on the outcome, Lewis-Bowe and Holmes-Foreman.
At a big fight magnitude, Mayweather vs Pacquiao will probably debated upon for many years, Jones vs McClellan too, not that the fight never came close of happening but on how the G-Man's career ended.
Its so ****** that pacman vs mayweather dint happen and more than probably wont. Is this the only time where a fight this big never happened? If not which 1 gets the top spot?
Mate this has happened ever since boxing went professional, especially since the time when John L. Sullivan refused to ever fight a black man, there will always be fights that should have happened like Zale Vs Robinson, Darcy Vs Gibbons, Darcy Vs Willard, I don't think Basilio ever fought Graziano, Frazier never fought Norton (good buddies but still it's a sport). There were even fights that did happen that should have had a rematch within a year or two of the one fight that did happen, Walker Vs Greb II would have attracted a massive crowd. There was one Dempsey didn't fight (you know who). Pacquiao Vs Mayweather will never happen, the time has passed where it mattered to happen most and it is just one of a long series. ----------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Boxers are not well known for their good judgement in picking their own bouts, Kostya Tszyu is a fighter who got the freedom to decide who he fought and when and that turned out to be a mistake. This day and age where many top fighters fight once every year and a half or so doesn't help either.
I only mentioned Darcy Vs Willard with the benefit of hindsight, knowing that Les had less than 6 months to live he may as well have fought BIG Jess but Willard refused to fight the man half his size even though it was the fight Darcy wanted above any other. We know little of Jess Willard's reasons for refusing the fight but money certainly wouldn't have been the cause as a huge gate was a certainty.
In more modern times there is simply no way that any governing body would ever allow a bout of that type now but that is something that all top fighters used to take for granted and it certainly added some extra dimension to the sport.
The question always arises when a big fight never happens, "Is the guy a gutless wimp ?".. many point the finger and say, "yes, he is a coward". the truth is usually money, or just plain common sense, a fighter deep down thinks he will get pounded he may decide not to take the fight but it doesn't mean he is scared of getting hurt, why even be a boxer if that is a fear. No, I believe what scares a fighter these days is the statistic of a loss is simply far scarier than a broken jaw. I respect anyone who enters that ring, champs and bums alike.
Page-Dokes 1982, a lot of questions could have been answered.
Czyz-Ramos 1982 Bobby was the media darling, but Alex may have won.
Sanchez-Pedroza Salvador may have experienced that loss for the first time
McCrory-Starling 1983 Milton probably would've won but who knows, Marlon may have edged him.
