He claimed that he was for sure, but who knows? John Wayne's real last name was Morrison.

In the old espn top rank boxing days they reported that John Wayne's family denied any relationship between Morrison and the late actor. There were even reports that John Wayne denied it but with John Wayne dying 9 years before Morrison ever turned pro, I doubt those reports are true.
