  • J.L. Castillo vs JMM at 135

I started this thread in history section because this would become a troll thread in NSB

Who do you guys think wins in a fight between

    2000-05 JLC vs a 2008-10 JMM

honestly i think Castillo would take jmm on workrate alone,,,

Maybe jmm wins enough of the early rounds to win a decision, but i think JLC chin and pressure would win him a split dec over jmm...

I am curious to what you guys think???

I'd pick Castillo for sure, and he just might KO JMM in the late rds. JMM is a smallish LW, whereas Castillo was a bigger and stronger LW. JMM had problems with an older Casamayor and with Diaz en route to stopping them. He was in control throughout the fight with Katsidis, but Katsidis was competitive all the way and dished out his share of punishment.

I don't think JMM would last to the final bell against Castillo. Castillo could take his counters without ever shying away. JMM usually commands respect from his opponents, and I don't see Castillo showing him any. He'd have to move and throw a lot against the consistent pressure. And ****ing against a big guy like that could wear JMM out. Castillo has power in both hands, a brutal body attack, inside game, and stamina to stay strong and pick it up late. JMM's chin is vulnerable and once JMM got hurt Castillo wouldn't let him off the hook.

I'll go JLC. I'm not the huge JMM fan that so many are, but I don't think that's why I'm picking Castillo. A very good fantasy fight!

Marquez has never been stopped, and may weathers punches didn't even hurt him. I'll go with Jmm by decision.

The only fighters who have really bothered JMM are guys with speed or unorthodox styles. He showed that he could adapt very well at 135, and I think he stays a step ahead of Castillo, especially in the second half of the fight.

I think it would be a 50/50 fight. Marquez did struggle with Casamayor, but almost no one ever looked good against Joel and it was his first fight at 135. If JMM were to have faced Castillo in his first at 135 I think he would've lost but if had a fight or two and got acclimated to the weight I think it would be a even fight. Castillo had a great chin but Marquez is a great body puncher and very accurate. I think he would be able to get Castillo's respect at least. Marquez has always done well against pressure fighters. The problem for Marquez is he usually takes a little time to adjust and gives early rounds away. That's what has made so many of his fights so close on the cards.

Marquez. Close fight but Castillo's style plays into Marquez's style somewhat. Marquez wants you to come to him and be aggressive. That is why he has been such a problem to Pacquiao.

Castillo had a great run as lightweight champion. He was the best at one time in his division. I think Castillo is to big for a young Marquez that is just starting to move up in weight. At there best i may just favor Castillo but as humean said Castillos style plays into the style of Marquez. But a prime Castillo can cut off the ring really well, and we know how brave the new Marquez is in willing to exchange punchs. I can see Marquez win but i don't know if he can convert to his old style and be calm and cool and just wait on Castillo, i think he'd have an itch to exchange punchs with Castillo. Tough fight but at lightweight i give the edge to Castillo, but its up in the air to which Marquez shows up; Marquez before the John fight or the Marquez we know now after the John fight, both Marquez are very good fighters.

The thing about JLC that would cause jmm the most problems would be jlc had a granite chin,,, He would eat jmm's counters and not blink, and just land some of his own shots,,

Unlike a diaz or katsidis, JLC would be able to walk thru jmm's shots,,,, Still would be a very close and entertaining fight, but i think JLC style would cause problems just like manny and his great chin caused jmm problems,,,
Jmm would def land alot on JLC, i just dont see him hurting him, and making him slow down
