    Yoko Gushiken

The owner of the best Afro mustache combo in boxing history, won the title in only his 9th pro fight and defended it 13 times.
What are your thoughts on the Fierce Eagle, where does he rank in Japanese boxing?

In japan he ranks very high number one being fighting harada you can argue hes 2nd but ithink number two would be shirai yoshio. But seriously he was a beast but people will critize the opponents he faced. The divison just started out not much to work with but 13 successful defenses of his title a japanese record. Wish he had comeback from his lone loss he could have been successful but something just went wrong in that last defense his rhythm was completly distrubted in the early rounds and slowly he was broken down. Hes a very popular figure in japan more well known than most politicans. Some intersting facts are that he only made about 50,000$ in his first world title match but by the time he got to the double digits he made about 300,000$ per fight. Makes probably 2x that a year as a tv personality. If he competed in the light flyweight divisom now i believe he would be unified champ. Great power good footwork can box and fight inside somewhat hes the man we look up to in japan.

Very nice! I also enjoy watching his fights, i knew he was very popular but did not know he had such a high ranking in Japan.
I think it is great that he is in good health and doing well financially, excellent information thanks

Damn good career, 23-1 and the one guy he lost to he beat in the previous fight so beat everyone he fought, like Lennox Lewis. I gotta see if I can find this guy's fights.

never seen him fight. just some whatever u call maybe anecdotal trivia, back in the late 70's I'd run into a handful of little Asian cats with afros n mustaches in gyms from hoover to Stanton boxing, then a couple years later I see his pic in one of the mags, either ko or ring I think and he's like the best in his class maybe ever and I wonder to myself if I had seen the man in the gym. i'll never know but u know
